Industrial hygiene has been defined as “The science and art devoted to the anticipation, recognition, evaluation and control of those environmental factors or stresses arising in or from the workplace, which may cause sickness, impaired health and well-being or significant discomfort among workers or the citizens of the community.” Quite a mouthful. So what does that all mean? And what does an Industrial Hygienist actually do?

This course, “Introduction to Industrial Hygiene”, discusses how Industrial Hygienist’s look at the work environment, identify problems that could affect workers’ safety and health – and find ways to eliminate or alleviate those problems. Topics covered include:

Worksite analysis

Air contaminants

Chemical and biological hazards

Physical hazards: noise and vibrations

Physical hazards: light, temperature, heat and radiation

Ergonomic hazards and more

“Introduction to Industrial Hygiene” uses a powerful combination of full-motion, high-definition video filmed in real world locations, along with audio, text, and colorful graphics to provide the most cost-effective training available today.

There are any number of things that can cause an accident on the highways. In studying incidents that involve commercial vehicles, the Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) determined that cargo being loaded and secured incorrectly is more likely to cause a crash than any other type of problem. So the DOT has established “cargo securement” regulations to specify how different types of cargo should be loaded and secured so that it can be transported safely.

This course discusses the goals of the DOT’s Cargo Securement Standard, the requirements that the Standard places on motor carriers and drivers, and what drivers should do to ensure that the cargo on the truck they are driving stays put when they’re on the road.

Topics covered in the course include:

• The DOT Cargo Securement Standard
• Securement Systems
• Working with “Load Limits”
• Loading and Restraining Cargo
• and more

Distracted driving is not a new problem, but the increasing use of cellphones and other electronic devices has caused it to grow alarmingly in recent years… and so has the toll it has taken in road accidents, injuries and lost lives. In fact, today as many as one in three accidents involve distracted drivers.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration defines distracted drivers as those who engage in “any activity that could divert a person’s attention away from the primary task of driving.” And plenty of us fit that description.

Fortunately, there are ways we can reverse the increases we are seeing in distracted driving accidents.

Topics covered in this course include:

The cost of distracted driving

Multi-tasking and distraction

The dangers of using cell phones while driving

Ways to eliminate distractions before you drive

How to fight distraction on the road

and more
